Announcement    Welcome to TamayoINKception! Please enjoy the exquisite Sumi ink artworks, blending traditional Japanese artistry with modern sensibilities. Delve into the elegance of ink wash paintings, a revered art form in Japan, meticulously crafted to infuse your surroundings with tranquility and grace.

I use superfine Sumi, a Japanese black ink stick made of plant soot and natural glue, all handmade using traditional techniques. Each time I paint, I rub down the ink stick on a top-quality Suzuri (ink stone) to create Sumi ink.

Despite being painted solely with black ink on white washi paper, ink wash paintings can evoke delicate atmospheres and even convey rich colors. This is due to the ink's infinite range of tones, from deep black to subtle shades. By controlling the amount of water and ink, the expression changes infinitely as it permeates the thin washi paper. Additionally, as an art form rooted in Zen, the powerful brushstrokes reflect the artist's embodiment of celestial energy.

The subjects of my artworks each carry deep meanings rooted in East Asian religion and culture. They represent various auspicious signs and symbols of good fortune, warding off misfortune, the harmony of yin and yang, wisdom, social success, prosperity of offspring, longevity, and more. Please refer to the accompanying descriptions for a better understanding of the meanings behind each painting subject.

STORY
Twenty-five years ago, I became fascinated by Sumi-e paintings when I encountered the artworks of Buddhism Zen monk Kaou, a Sumi-e master from the fourteenth century. I then started learning traditional painting techniques under Master Souu Meguro in Tokyo while studying art history in college. I honed my artistic skills at Setsu Mode Seminar in Tokyo and Camberwell College of Arts in London. I have had solo exhibitions and on-stage painting performances in Tokyo, New York, and Frankfurt. I have been featured on TV, as well as in various web and magazine articles.

Additionally, I work as a writer and translator specializing in art. I incorporate my profound knowledge of Japanese art and its religious background, such as Zen, in my creations.

I also offer donation-based online classes to share the healing and meditative powers of art and creativity with international participants.
